New, Affordable, Small Škoda is Set to be a Sales Sensation. Its World Premiere is Approaching

In recent years, Škoda has developed two models specifically for the Indian market: the Kushaq crossover and the Slavia sedan. Soon, they will be joined by a third and smallest sibling. Specifically, the Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,566 mm. Besides its compact footprint, which is ideal for navigating narrow city streets, it boasts a ground clearance of 189 millimeters, a feature drivers will appreciate on the many unpaved sections of Indian roads.
Škoda has so far only revealed the car under camouflage, but even from the first photos, its proportions are quite discernible. Like the Slavia and Kushaq, the new model is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, with similar technology inside. The Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, delivering 115 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. Customers will have a choice between a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
It’s no secret that after the less successful foray into China, India is becoming the brand’s “second China.” The Indian economy is on the rise, and an increasing number of people in the world’s most populous country are gaining the ability to purchase their first car. Two years ago, Škoda recorded its best sales results in India, and in 2022 and 2023, it sold over 100,000 vehicles in the country. The brand’s plans are even more ambitious, and the Kylaq is expected to help realize them.
“The world premiere of the Kylaq is approaching, and it’s a special moment for our team. We’ve maintained excellent driving dynamics, top-notch safety, and proven quality. The car features hot-formed steel in the frontal impact module, achieving the highest level of passive safety in its class,” explains Jiří Dytrych, head of product management for combustion-engine vehicles at Škoda Auto.
Škoda wants to be synonymous with safety on Indian roads, so the Kylaq comes standard with six airbags. However, comfort hasn’t been overlooked, with features like ventilated seats adjustable in six directions, a segment-leading feature.
The Kylaq will be the first Škoda in India to feature elements of the brand’s Modern Solid design language. The final design and all other details will be revealed on November 6, when the official world premiere is scheduled.
