A six-member Indian wrestling team will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics, aiming for glory.
Tokyo Olympian Anshu Malik will participate in her second Summer Games, while Vinesh Phogat, the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games, returns for her third Olympics in search of her first medal.
Vinesh Phogat qualified for the gold medal bout in the women’s 50kg event but was disqualified after failing the weigh-in on the morning of her medal match.

Two Indian wrestlers entered the Summer Games as seeded competitors – Antim Panghal (fourth seed in women’s 53kg) and Aman Sehrawat (sixth seed in men’s 57kg).
Wrestlers were seeded based on their performances at the 2023 World Championships, 2024 Continental Championships, 2024 Zagreb Open Ranking Series, and the 2024 Hungarian Ranking Series.
The other four wrestlers – Vinesh Phogat, Anshu Malik, Nisha Dahiya, and Reetika Hooda – are unseeded at Paris 2024.
All wrestling events will start from the round of 16 stage and proceed in a knockout format. Wrestlers losing to the eventual finalists will compete for a bronze medal via repechage.
In the previous edition, India won two medals in wrestling – a silver for Ravi Kumar Dahiya in men’s 57kg and a bronze for Bajrang Punia in men’s 65kg. Neither qualified for Paris.
Overall, India has seven Olympic medals in wrestling – two silver and five bronze. It is the second most for the country in any sport, only behind hockey (12 medals).
